We\u2019ve got a great show lined up for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;re going to talk a little production, a little IT, a little marketing, and a little life with my friend Steve Strum, who&#8217;s here from the Daily News Network as part of this show. So let&#8217;s welcome the panel and say hello. Bob Brown is up first \u2014 our production pal. What\u2019s up, bro?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 3<\/strong><br>Hey, how\u2019s it going?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>How you doing?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 3<\/strong><br>I&#8217;m doing great.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>What do you produce, man?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 3<\/strong><br>Well, you name it \u2014 concerts, shows, and everything in between. I do live audio predominantly. A little bit of video \u2014 I dabble in that. Mostly on the West Coast \u2014 nobody on the East Coast knows, so I keep it safe. I do a lot of concerts around town, and I tour with some artists and just make things loud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>How long have you been doing that?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 3<\/strong><br>Thirty-something years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>Really? How\u2019d you get started \u2014 were you a musician?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 3<\/strong><br>I am. I&#8217;m a recovering drummer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>You&#8217;re\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 3<\/strong><br>I am, yeah. So I was a musician. I love being around music, but musicians are typically a difficult bunch inside the walls of a rehearsal facility. So I got into the production side, and it\u2019s been great for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>Cool, man. That\u2019s a big job, and you\u2019ve got a lot going on with that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 3<\/strong><br>It is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>Software, different sounds \u2014 I\u2019ve seen it from afar, and it\u2019s really interesting. What\u2019s your favorite gig, if you had to pick one?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 3<\/strong><br>That\u2019s tough \u2014 there are so many, and they\u2019re all great. I do a bluegrass festival at Swamp Music Park every year, and that\u2019s become one of my favorites. The people that attend are just awesome and super laid back. A lot of fun. It\u2019s a really good time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>Music heals, man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 3<\/strong><br>It does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>Music brings us together \u2014 like football.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 3<\/strong><br>For the most part, yeah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>Willie, great to have you on the show. You\u2019re my friend. Rich Craven \u2014 tell us what you do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 4<\/strong><br>Sure. We\u2019re an office technology company. We provide services to small and mid-sized companies that really can\u2019t get first-tier IT support. We\u2019re talking about putting in VoIP phones to save them money over Comcast, right-sizing their managed print services \u2014 if you\u2019ve got a really expensive contract, we can help you get out of that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People aren\u2019t paying as much today, and they want to get more out of their funding. We also provide managed IT services \u2014 everything from managing your desktop to cybersecurity. We partner with a great company here in town called OnDefend \u2014 have you heard of them?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>No.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 4<\/strong><br>They\u2019re providing the security for TikTok. I\u2019ve got a great network of entrepreneurs here in the IT space. We try to broker some things and really provide the best service we can to small and mid-sized companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>Very cool. TikTok needs security \u2014 my wife&#8217;s on that gosh-dang thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 5<\/strong><br>I can laugh and laugh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>And your kids too? A dog?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 4<\/strong><br>Yeah. The other thing we do \u2014 my wife Wendy and I \u2014 is add a layer of customer delight. We have a client success manager assigned to each customer, and we go out there proactively to make sure everything\u2019s working. We go through a standard process once a month or once a quarter, at your request. We walk you through everything and ask how we can improve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>That\u2019s great. Wendy\u2019s a BK grad like myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 4<\/strong><br>Yes, sir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>Tell her I said hey. Steve \u2014 our Flint Creative man, what\u2019s up?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 6<\/strong><br>Let me start by saying \u2014 I think you got a little more handsome since the last time I saw you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>I appreciate that. You&#8217;re so nice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 6<\/strong><br>Flattery works!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>Right off the field, yeah. How do you balance that? Seriously \u2014 you guys gotta be vicious on the field, but off the field, you can\u2019t be that way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 6<\/strong><br>I\u2019ll talk about that. My favorite coach was George Yano \u2014 he coached the Dolphins. I think he was the only coach that understood me. In practice, I was super laid back with teammates. But in the game \u2014 flip the switch \u2014 I\u2019d become a different person. He was ten times more intense. On game day, I\u2019ve never seen a more terrifying man in my life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>So it\u2019s a switch you flip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 6<\/strong><br>Exactly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>But you\u2019ve got to have the balance. If you take it off the field, you get into trouble and nobody likes you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 6<\/strong><br>Before every game, I used to listen to <em>Badfish<\/em> by Sublime just to calm down. So I wasn\u2019t too crazy when I went out there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>Tell us about Flint Creative. What\u2019s the latest?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 6<\/strong><br>We\u2019re surviving and creating a niche. We do commercial art installations, immersive environments, and creative build-outs. I&#8217;ve been a commercial artist for 25 years. When I launched the business, I leaned heavily into the construction side, but now \u2014 four years in \u2014 we\u2019ve exclusively done highly creative, artistic jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>Have you always been the artist type?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 6<\/strong><br>I come from a family of artists. I was on a potter\u2019s wheel at age three. I was a giant kid, so it worked out that I became a football player too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>Great to have you back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 5<\/strong><br>Steve, it\u2019s so cool to be on this episode. I was listening to the intro \u2014 how fun is it to be known as the plucky commentary? I\u2019m a recovering drummer too \u2014 from a band in college. Not a great band. Mr. Craven \u2014 excellent to see you, sir. We did some charity work together. You might be the biggest artist I\u2019ve ever met. I can\u2019t wait to see who wins the arm wrestling contest \u2014 though I\u2019d need both hands in one of yours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>You do a lot of interviews \u2014 Daily News, all of that. How do you prep? Are you like me and wing it, or are you more prepared?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 5<\/strong><br>I try to prep. Mike Tyson said, &#8220;Everyone\u2019s got a plan till they get punched in the mouth.&#8221; So I do some prep. Our producers at Clairvaux Media and the Dailies Network sometimes take my cue cards away. I carry a pen and tattoo ink in my pocket so I can write notes discreetly. I try to be ready and bring it for the guests and audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>You do a great job. Alright \u2014 as we wrap up, what\u2019s the best part about living in Jacksonville? Paul, let\u2019s start with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 3<\/strong><br>Living in Jacksonville is great. People say there\u2019s nothing to do, but that\u2019s not true. There\u2019s music every week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>You don\u2019t know those people \u2014 they\u2019re from way out west or something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 3<\/strong><br>Yeah, there\u2019s so much to do. And for my career, I\u2019m six hours from a lot of work. It\u2019s a great place to live. I\u2019ve got family here \u2014 what\u2019s better than that?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>Nice. What about you, Rich?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 4<\/strong><br>It\u2019s a big small town. I\u2019ve lived here since \u201989. There\u2019s barely a place I can go without knowing someone \u2014 west side, north side, anywhere. I love the community spirit and diversity. That\u2019s what makes it interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>Steve?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 6<\/strong><br>I hate to say it, but I live in St. Augustine now. I\u2019m from Jacksonville, though. What I love most is the recent movement for creativity \u2014 murals downtown, more artists showing up. I\u2019m proud to be a part of that. Back in the day, it was a tough scene. So I\u2019m glad to see it grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>Jacksonville\u2019s got a kind of art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 6<\/strong><br>It\u2019s growing. Huge movement in the last two years \u2014 the results are beautiful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>What about you, Steve?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 5<\/strong><br>You know, it\u2019s a football reference, man. I\u2019m from South Florida, and when I was in grad school, I did a whole economic study on population growth and job opportunities. For every city with an NFL team that\u2019s hosted a Super Bowl, there\u2019s been 5 to 10% economic growth \u2014 except for one, way up in the Midwest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But for everywhere else, there&#8217;s been exceptional growth. I moved here to raise a family and build a life. I\u2019ve now planted roots \u2014 I\u2019ve been here 20 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>Nice!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 5<\/strong><br>Yeah, so any NFL city that\u2019s hosted a Super Bowl \u2014 it\u2019s a great place to live. And this is a wonderful place to be, surrounded by all these amazing people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>And you&#8217;re not too shabby yourself!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 5<\/strong><br>(Laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speaker 2<\/strong><br>I\u2019d say the best thing about Jacksonville is the people, the climate \u2014 and it\u2019s just the best place to raise a family.
