It&#8217;s what we ask every client! Focusing on the right things.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Transcript: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>James:<\/strong><br>Welcome back to <em>Living My Faith<\/em> on Faith Works TV. I&#8217;m James Anmore. Today we&#8217;ve got a special treat for you\u2014joining me is Mark McDonald. Mark, how are you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mark:<\/strong><br>I&#8217;m doing great. Thank you so much for having me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>James:<\/strong><br>Thank <em>you<\/em> for joining us. I\u2019ve got one simple question for you, Mark: <strong>How are you living your faith?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mark:<\/strong><br>Man, living our faith is so important. I think back to when I was eight years old and decided I was going to follow Jesus. Never in my wildest imagination did I expect to be where I am today. So I often go back to the basics\u2014what does it really mean to walk out my faith, to live my faith, to follow Jesus?<br>We tend to imagine it as this big, grand journey, but in reality, it&#8217;s one step at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>James:<\/strong><br>One step at a time. Tell me more about that. For the people at home\u2014what does that look like practically?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mark:<\/strong><br>Well, I was just with my grandkids recently\u2014I have two of them\u2014and while we were shopping, I told them, <em>\u201cMake sure you follow me.\u201d<\/em> And as any parent or grandparent knows, if they\u2019re not concentrating on <em>every<\/em> step, a two- or three-year-old can wander off quickly.<br>It reminded me that we also need to pay attention to each step we take. We have to plant each step in the direction Jesus wants us to go. And sometimes that\u2019s not about knowing the whole destination\u2014just making sure that every step is one that follows Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>James:<\/strong><br>So how do you make sure you\u2019re staying obedient to those steps?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mark:<\/strong><br>We always have to go back to the Book\u2014the truth. That\u2019s what keeps us on course. And if you think of it like a map, the Bible doesn\u2019t always show you the full route of where you\u2019ll end up, but it absolutely keeps you on the right path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>James:<\/strong><br>That\u2019s incredible. And I know you don\u2019t only live your faith personally and with your family\u2014you live it in your professional life, too. Tell us about that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mark:<\/strong><br>Yeah, it\u2019s interesting. Our organization, <em>Be Known for Something<\/em>, is a church branding agency. We started it 25 years ago. We moved from Canada to North Carolina and set up a branding company focused on churches. And along the way, we really fell in love with pastors\u2014trying to understand why people aren\u2019t paying attention to the church anymore, and helping churches figure out how to become known for something that their community will actually pay attention to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>James:<\/strong><br>So you\u2019re helping churches get their message out there?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mark:<\/strong><br>Exactly. And similar to walking step-by-step, churches often have so many good things happening\u2014so many ministries\u2014that when someone asks, \u201cTell me about your church,\u201d the pastor or a member ends up listing <em>everything<\/em>.<br>We help them concentrate on the one thing they should be known for, so they say <em>less<\/em>, and people listen <em>more<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>James:<\/strong><br>So you\u2019re telling me even a church needs an elevator pitch?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mark:<\/strong><br>Oh my goodness\u2014yes.<br>Back in the day, we talked about elevator pitches being 30 seconds because the average elevator ride was about that long. Today, with websites and digital media, people don\u2019t give 30 seconds anymore.<br>When someone visits a website, they spend about 30 seconds total clicking around. But within <strong>3 to 4 seconds<\/strong>, they decide if they&#8217;ll even stay that long.<br>So we ask pastors: <em>What can you say in 3\u20134 seconds that makes someone say, \u201cTell me more\u201d?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>James:<\/strong><br>Wow. And are you doing this just in the Jacksonville market, or everywhere?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mark:<\/strong><br>We\u2019re across the country\u2014and in Canada as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>James:<\/strong><br>Multinational\u2014that\u2019s incredible for the Kingdom. Is there any piece of advice you\u2019d give, beyond having that elevator pitch? Something for churches or for anyone trying to live their faith and share Jesus?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mark:<\/strong><br>Absolutely. When I talk to pastors, I don\u2019t usually lead with \u201cI\u2019m in church branding,\u201d because many respond with, \u201cWe don\u2019t need branding\u2014we\u2019re the church.\u201d<br>Instead, I ask: <em>What\u2019s the perception of your church in the community? What are you known for?<\/em><br>For anyone sharing their faith, the key is understanding the perception of people outside your immediate circle. Effective communication rises and falls on how well you know your audience.<br>Understand their needs, concerns, and goals\u2014and make sure you\u2019re presenting Jesus as the solution to them. And learn to say it quickly: either their pain point or the solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>James:<\/strong><br>Mark, I really appreciate you coming by today. This has been eye-opening for us.
